hey guys just a quick question...let me update you first.
when i bought the car i decided to change all the fluids; changed the oil to 5-30w fully synthetic. once i changed the oil a few days later; i was working on the transmission (fluid flush and filter) and i noticed that the oil pan gasket had that soaked and wet look to it. did not drip from the pan or anything but had that slowly seeping look to it. could it be because i went to synthetic oil from conventional perhaps? or a thinner grade than before? but i am aim towards changing the gasket on the next oil change. could you guys tell me what the proper oil pan gasket to use on a 2001 Jaguar XJR.
i can find a Lincoln LS 3.9 oil pan gasket for about 20 USD easily.
also is the xj8 gasket the same for the xjr?
also any advise/suggestions to change would be great!
appreciate it gentlemen and thank you...and the madams! loll

Two things...
First, when you replace the oil filter on these engines, the oil that drains out from the side of the engine block lands on the top edge of the pan. Even when the car is on a flat surface or on a level lift up in the air, the oil continues to flow towards the back side of the oil pan. It will make that 90* turn and then drip. So after I install the new filter, I use brake cleaner from the oil filter area of the pan and spray around the topside and around the backside and wipe it with a clean, dry rag.
Second, it's not very common that the oil pan gasket leaks on these engines. I'm not saying yours isn't though. Since this car is new to you, I'd go around with a flashlight and some brake cleaner and carefully spray any suspicious areas where you think oil is at and use compressed air to dry it off. The reason I say this is because I've been getting a rash of timing cover gaskets leaking on these engines. They used to hold up pretty well, but like anything else with age and mileage tends to show itself.
Edit, ok I lied, three things...
The oil pan gaskets shown above are all the same. They are just laid down in different "poses".
