Default OK drained the trans?

In the process of changing the trans fluid and filter,on the drivers side of the trans is two lines that I think go to the cooler and my first question is what one is the return, the upper or lower one. I had thought about pumping the new fluid through the cooler into the trans. Can any one tell me what threads are on the end fittings of those two lines they are the same. Also is there a drain bolt in the torque converter?
Thanks
Bill

Assuming a ZF 5HP24 transmission I think there was a torque converter drain for a couple early years that quickly went away.
