Default Ok next issue. After repairing the remote, its working sporadically

Ok next issue. After repairing the remote, its working now. When I bought the XJR, the owner said he couldnt get the remote to work at all. Well I found dirx on resetting to get it to work. He also had 2 batteries in the remote, & both were wrong. So I bought the right battery, then recoded it and now it locks, unlocks, turns the headlights on and pops the trunk. The only issue now is that it can often take me 6 or more tries on the remote to get it to lock and unlock, but eventually it works and the battery is brand new now. Thoughts, suggestions? Trunk popping and headlights on from the remote seem to work properly.

I had this with my 98 XJR, what it was, was the little carbon dots on the key pad contacts had worn away.

A bit of aluminium foil tape like they use on air conditioning/ heating ducting and a hole punch is all you need.

Punch out a couple of dots and stick them on the contact pad, reassemble the remote and you should be good to go.

At the risk of tempting fate, mine has been OK for 18 months or so.

Thanks man, that seemed to do it. I didnt have any of the tape, so I just cut out 4 tiny little squares of aluminum foil and its working 100X better. Thanks!

Oddly/interestingly, until now my panic button only served to light up the headlights, so I figured thats all it did. Now its functioning as a proper panic button and sets off the alarm and headlights. So it seems I fixed something else I didnt even know wasnt working right, all for a grand total of $0

Unhappy

Since I "fixed" this issue, I now have a new weird issue. The range of the remote is a lot better and doesnt need to be hit over and over again, so thats good. But now Ive noticed that once I remotely unlock the door locks, get in and start the car, the trunk is opening itself. Its the weirdest thing. Anyone heard of that one before?

Shame we don't live closer to one another.
We might be able to get a "two-fer" deal on a couple exorcisms.

My car has occasionally displayed "trunk open" after unlocking with remote. If my trunk struts were in better shape, it might actually open itself.

My first 308 did that. About drove me nuts. Get in start the car, to get a sign saying the trunk was open. It was a frayed wire along the loom by the right hinge.it was under warranty at the time, the dealer replace the lock, the control button, and reprogrammed the remotes. Didn't go away until they found the frayed wire.

Current car does too: am touching the release button on the remote as I climb into the car using my hands, with the key in one to lower into the seat: bad knees.

I removed the aluminum foil in the remote just for the trunk, left it in for all the other buttons. Seems to have lessened it a great deal, knock on wood. Now occasionally when I lock the car, as Im walking to my house, I hear the double chirp indicating it unlocked and disarmed the car by itself, lol. British cars, gotta love em
