Default Only one door affected - electronic opening

Hi I have searched the net but everything I read assumes ALL doors are affected.

However on my 98 XJ8 - the key fob opens and locks all other three doors, boot, lights etc etc no issues.

Just the drivers door is not responding to anything - not the fob, not the central locking when you put it into gear like the rest do.

I have tried to research how these doors work or are connected to the system to operate so I can go in and test the drivers door with some idea of why just one door has been removed from the system.

I have to use a key for the driver door. The inside and outside door handles open the door fine.

I am assuming something simple like a wire is disconnected but having information is king if possible - whatever it might be.

If anyone has had these types of issues and fixed them please let me know your discovery thanks.

Rgds

Have you tried a 'hard reset'? Basically disconnect the battery for 10 minutes have a coffee then hook it back up - remember to have your radio code. This process puts the car's programming back to original and might bring your door actuator back on-line.

If not, you may need a lock actuator or microswitch within the actuator. They can and do fail so replacement is the option here.

Glad I came across this, I just had the same problem on my 2003 VDP. Pulled the driver side door handle, all locks except the driver door unlocked. tried all the same , FOB, central door lock on the dash, even tried starting the car, put in gear and then in park again but nothing. had to climb out passenger door (not an easy feat when your knees do not bend easily). after I got out, used the FOB to lock the car then unlock and driver door still did not open. used the key and it unlocked. I am thinkinging maybe a diry connection or a micro switch or module

First try spraying the lock mechanism with WD-40 with the door open. Next possibility is the door control module. They can vibrate loose. Unfortunately you must pull the door card cover to access it. It is mounted inside the door. Try unplugging it and cleaning the contacts.
Make sure that the battery is disconnected, you can accidentally cause the window to operate with your hands in the mechanism.

Many times, in the past, folks got instant relief following Sean's suggestion. Worked for me twice, first in my earliest X308, and once in my last. Even worked a couple of times for Range Rover Sport owners when I suggested it on that forum.

hard reset didn't work. WD40 in locks - didn't work either - so now to the "lock actuator" or "micro switch". -

My question on this level then is - are these part of the "door control module" or different to that? If they are different to the module - where are they and can you tell if they are faulty - how?

If they are part of the "door module" - whats the testing methods for that thank you?

The micro-switches are in the locking mechanisn at the top of the door. The door control module doesn't have any.
The only method, that I know, of testing for the door module is to swap it with a working door and see if the failure your having follows to the door you swapped with.
