Opinions on Alignment: Dealer vs. Independent shop
Please let me know if you think it requires the Jaguar Dealer to properly check and adjust 4 wheel alignment, add shims, etc. For 2000 XJ8.
Not interested in DIY. Have neither the tools nor expertise.
What questions should I ask an independent shop to determine if they really are able to properly align my Jag. (I assume some will claim they can whether it is true or not)

Bottom line is that any shop equipped with latest computer alignment equipment can do an alignment on your Jaguar. The care and expertise of the technician is certainly important but the computer managed alignment process even makes that much less important than in the past.

Steve,
I've been using a good independent tire & alignment shop on our Jags since the mid-'90s and have always had good results.
For the X308, the one thing to be aware of is that Jaguar's alignment specifications apply to "Showroom" height," meaning the ride height of the car with 9.5 quarts of fuel in the tank. Jaguar refers to the ride height with a full tank of fuel as "Curb Height." This means you'll get the best alignment results if you take the car to the shop with only a couple of gallons in the tank.
Cheers,
Don

Thanks Don!
I’m scheduled for tomorrow PM. I will probably have < ½ a tank by then.
Not ideal but, I didn’t know till just now reading your post. I will empty the trunk to minimize added weight.
I will be very interested in what they say re alignment b4 vs. after adjustments. (My tread wear is not even across the tire.)
