Default P0730 Incorrect Gear Ratio '01 XJR

P0730 CODE. The tranny shifts perfectly under normal driving conditions, but when you stomp the accelerator it is very sluggish, then goes into limp mode. I've searched but can't find much info on this. Anyone have any clues?

Not to my knowledge...I haven't had her for long. The fluid level is fine. I've searched and can't find much info on the P0730 code. Could it be a speed sensor, tcm, etc....?

Hello
Are you sure that the transmission fluid is full? Our mechanic thought he had put in enough fluid after our transmission was rebuilt. About a week later we started getting gearbox warning messages.

Here is another forum thread by forum member jimmycruz99xjr on P0730 DTC code issue - turned out to be low transmission fluid level (XJR) due to transmission fluid leak - see post# 21:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...79/#post251160

I found jimmycruz more recent thread - looks like he is looking for a replacement transmission - see post# 17:

I checked through the dipstick tube using a flex cable. The level seemed on par at around 60mm hot (based on another post). Is this the correct level? Also, my ABS, Trac and Stability lights are on. I was expecting to rebuild the abs module, but I'm not getting any codes other than the 0730. Could the lights be related to the tranny issue? Dirty speed sensors wouldn't cause a gear ratio light would they? Thanks!

Hi
I recommend cleaning all 4 wheel sensors. It is fairly easy and probably only take less than 2 hours at no dollar cost.
Here is another forum thread that will give more information (look for post# 14) and it gives you the weblink to the DIY posting:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...e-50890/page2/

I used some diluted Palmotive dishwashing detergent with brush to clean them.

Well, I cleaned all 4 sensors and the abs, trac and stability lights are still on. The P0730 code is not currently on though, even though it is still boggs down on heavy acceleration. Next step is to rebuild the ABS module. Could the ABS module be causing the erratic shifting?

Hi
Do you have a code scanner? IF you do, did you try to clear (erase) the P0730 fault code with the code scanner? Even if you have erased the P0370, it might take a few 5 mile trips for it to clear the ECU.

That is a incorrect gear ratio code for which we used to put trannies in for since its a mechanical gear fault. Jaguar now recommends clearing out trans adaptations and reflashing with latest software. Evidently it can become a learned condiotn in many cases and trans not needed. Go t o a dealer or see bob gauff who i believe has a ids outside dallas( i dont know where mckinney is) get adaptations cleared and reflash the trans ecu with the latest software upgrades. That is wayyyy cheaper than a trans. Its 1 hr charge at a dealer
