Default Paint on the chrome exhaust tip

people who fixed a dent and did some paint spray on the left rear area of my XJR managed to not tape off a part of the exhaust tip. There is some platinum silver paint on the exhaust tip. This is not a major issue and I do not notice it often, but when I do it is annoying. Can anyone recommend a way to reasonably remove this paint without damaging the stainless steel exhaust tip?

thank you

Yeah, a little lacquer thinner on a rag should take it right off, no harm to the SS. Be very carefull, however, LT WILL instantly blister paint on the car if you are sloppy with it.

Paint thinners should do the trick I guess......failing that check out the detailing section for other results.

Depending on how nice n shiny your tips are or how shiny you want them to be, you can try very fine steel wool, followed by wet n dry 1500 and Autosol polish or similar to finish for a clean high gloss shine!

Default May get flack for this

So perhaps this will frustrate the pureist -

My Uncle 40 years ago showed me that SS/chrome could easily be cleaned with #0000 steel wool and WD40.

This has worked wonders for me. The #0000 wool is key, as it is fine enough not to scratch or leave any kind of burnish.

I have taken a many sorry looking piece of brightwork and turned it new with this approach.

In fact I did my exhaust tips this way.

This post makes a welcome change from exploding gearboxes and crumbling timing chain tensioners!
I will try the #0000 steel wool / WD-40 on the less than sparkly exhaust tips.

I use Nitric Acid and Scotch Bright pads at work for cleaning and restoring the finish on my pool gutters. It will bring it back to new finish no matter what the stain is. The pad is a little less invasive then even 0000 steel wool (which I use to keey the crappy Jap chrome on my CB clean and rust free since I ride it in sleet, snow and salt). If all else fails I'd suggest the Nitric but it isn't cheap and isn't real healthy. Nothing that comes in glass with a skull and crossbones on the label is though I guess.

It's one set screw. I would just take it off and work on it on the bench.
