Default Paint Code

I recently purchased a 2001 3.2L XJ8 V8 Executive saloon, which is in superb condition, but which needs some minor repairs to the bodywork. Unfortunately, the Paint Code appears to have been partially erased, and is, therefore, unreadable. The car is a very dark green, which is so dark that it almost looks dark blue, even in daylight. The colour might be British Racing Green (BRG), but there seem to be many variants of BRG - ranging from light green to a very dark green, like my car. If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can determine the paint code, I should be extremely grateful. I can provide photographs, if required.

If the paint finish is metallic or mica rather than a flat colour, and if the colour shifts to blue as the light or position changes, then this is almost certainly the colour called Emerald (2001-2003 - code HGG). It is a gorgeous colour based on, but not the same as, BRG. In this period Jaguar also had a metallic BRG, but it is the blue component which tells the tale. I'll try to find a photo of a 2002 (build date 2001) X-Type in that colour.

Welcome to the forums cyberwebb,

I've moved your question from X150 to X308 forum. The X150 is a two door coupe or convertible - your XJ8 is a four door saloon.

The green colours available on the 2001 XJ8 Sovereign were Aspen and British Racing Green. Of these, Aspen is very much darker. Any Jaguar Dealer can lookup the correct colour code from the VIN.

We have to remember that Jaguar offered different colours in different markets. The colour Emerald (which has blue tones, code HGG) looks like this: as you can see in dark light it looks blue, in sun, green: This same colour was offered on the XJ in this period. Is this the colour?

That is the same as mine, it a blue pearl underlay with the green layered over it to give it that slick oily transition. What some folks call ghost painting....I get a lot of compliments, one of Jags great applications.
But if its as described by the OP, the darker the cover color, the less likely there's any underlay (it doesn't show well) and I believe HGG is the only color Jag did this on.

What would be nice is if the OP posted a couple shots of the color and the ID tag on the door?
