Default Panic alarm?

I was wondering if anyone was familiar with a panic alarm feature on a 2001 xj8. Last night my son was trying out his new remote key fob as he was exiting our local police station after his CPR class; upon depressing the remote light button "a couple of times" all hell broke loose with alarms and horns which could not be shut off until entering the car and inserting the key. I was wondering if this could be turned off remotely or even permanently disabled since even in a crowded police station parking lot noone came to investigate!

Look at your Vehicle Care Handbook - page 4-16 Roadside Emergency - Engine Compartment Fuse box Left-hand Side - Fuse number 9 - 10amps - Security sounder.

Try pulling out that fuse 9 and see if it disables your alarm sounder.

Here is the information on the remote buttons use per JTIS:

A four-button transmitter unit provides for remote controlled central locking of the vehicle.

The button bearing a red closed padlock symbol locks the vehicle and arms the security system.

To remote 'single action' lock, the transmitter is pointed towards the vehicle and this button is pressed and released.

To deadlock the vehicle, the above operation is repeated within three seconds.

This function can also be used to remote close any windows.

Completion of deadlocking is indicated by an audible 'chirp' from the security system and a single flash from the direction indicators.

The vehicle is unlocked and the security system disarmed by pressing the button with the open padlock symbol.

The trunk lock can also be remotely released by operating the button bearing the trunk lid open symbol.

The button with dipped headlamp symbol is for emergency use.

When depressed three times within three seconds, it switches the headlamps on for 25 seconds and operates the vehicle alarm 5 times.

Here is the information in the Drivers Handbook:

Panic Alarm (Dealer option)
When in or near the vehicle, the alarm can be set off to deter a would-be offender.

This feature will also unlock the doors. For this feature to operate, the key must not be in the ignition switch.

Pressing the headlamp button on the key-ring transmitter three times within 3 seconds will activate the ‘Panic Alarm’.

The Panic Alarm will sound for the normal full alarm period. The alarm is stopped by turning the ignition key to position ‘l’ or ‘ll’.

The key-ring transmitter cannot be used to cancel the Panic Alarm, this prevents unauthorised use.
