Default Piston damage what to do?

Hello all,

Had my intake cam seize, bolt sheared off,,etc...anyhoo valves obviously crashed into this piston. they are not too deep..can I deburr them and be good to go? or replace? Vehicle is a 99 VDP with 94k I have redone everything in there tensioners, chains, and everything in between. Looking to get this wrapped up and get new coils, injectors etc. Can I deburr this piston and keep moving? or is it done?

Thanks

-Zander

It's hard to see the damage. But if the valves hit the piston I would worry about the piston collapsing on the rings. If it did that you might loose compression or oil may pass the rings.

Cracks in aluminum are not always visible. A penetrating dye test can identify micro cracks. One example below.

If the piston collapsed on the ring it wouldn't be ctacked. The force of the valve can very easily bend down the top of the piston and close the clearance for the rings so that it will bind the rings.
I've only built about a dozen engines so I not an expert on the possibility of there being damage. If it were my engine I would want to be sure before I threw more money at it. The only way I can think of to inspect it will be to remove the piston. There maybe other that may know of ways to find out if there is damage.

Were the valves bent from the contact with the piston?

Bob, I assumed he would be removing the piston to inspect, but better that you made it clear that it was necessary.
