Please indentify my engine
Quick post, as some of you know I had recent HGF and I'm trying to find out whether my current engine is an original Nikasil lined or a remanufactured steel lined or replacement steel lined engine.
As far as I can see the code on the back of the engine is as follows
NCC1002HAE
Any ideas?

You should have a Nikasil AJ26 engine. Is there a green tag at the rear of the engine? The 'code' supplied is not the engine serial number. That number should be in the format of yymmddhhmm. A call to a dealer with your VIN will produce the engine serial and they can, at the same time, produce a report of vehicle as built with all options and serials. If the engine was replaced under warrant they will have a record of that also.

Phoned up local Jaguar and they confirmed the code to be DC9806011949
They dont have on their system any engine work done to do with Nikasil and according to them it should be the orginal engine.
Ill double check this when I get home as the local Jagman said he was under the impression it's a remanufactured engine.

I understand that the warranty replacement engines came with a green tag probably near where you read the code you posted.
From the dealer provided serial the engine was assembled June 1, 1998 at 7:49pm. How does that date match up with the vehicle assembly date on the driver 'B' column?
Then, I guess, you will have to find the serial number on the engine to be sure, which is difficult to read in situ.

Sean surely they wouldnt replace it with a new Nikasil lined engine?
My service booked doesnt have anywhere stamped engine re-call or replacement in it why would this be?
Anyway I phoned up Jaguar where it had 10 years worth of services and their going to call me back with more details but recall work was carried out on the car in april 2001, checked the service book and a service stamp is stamped on the 14/04/01, this marrys up nicely just wonder why theres not service record when I have all the other recepts almost.

I bought a 98 XJR that had a failed nikasil engine, the unit that was in it was a steel liner, with the tag as yours has, but it was replaced by an indie. Probably taken from a right-off.
There's an old wive's tale about the dealership changing them without the owner knowing while the car was in for service, failed a leak down test and tech's had it inserted within a day. I doubt this. Any work carried out under warranty is logged.
More likely for your car is an indie exchange unit if Jaguar have no record.

These were only plated for replacement steel linered engines.
If you have an original engine, you will find the engine No. on the engine block just below and to the right of the water pump.
Use a bright light and a magnifying glass to see it properly....it's in a bugger of a position ;o)

If yours is the original engine...you won't find a green plate as described.

I intend to call the dealership, if still there, to check with them the history of the car if I can't find the plate where iot would be,
Thanks Allan

Allan...as far as I know ALL replacement engines were steel linered...of course, I have been known to be wrong but not often ;o)
If it is a factory authorised replacement, it will have a greeen plate about the size of a credit card situated at the back of the block below the back of the right hand head in your case, drivers side or 'offside'
Look down onto the bell housing, it should be there. ;o]
