Default Poor Air Conditioning Performance?

The HVAC system in my 03 XJ8 does not appear to be operating correctly. The air is not very cold. Today the center vent temperature read 78 degrees in Auto A/C mode…which was about the same as the exterior temperature. I have only had the car for a few weeks so I can not comment on how it worked in the past.

Does the x308 have any common HVAC troublesome areas I should check first?

Thanks,
Joe

No more AC problems than any other 10 year old cars. Best have the AC system checked for freon loss. Running the system with low pressure can/will cause much more expensive issues.

Thanks for the reply.

I quickly looked under the hood this evening and the compressor clutch appears to be engaging as it does spin, but I do not hear the usual click of the clutch engaging properly. Also, the low side lines leading from the receiver/drier are not cold to the touch as they are on all of my other cars with functioning A/C. If I had to guess I would say it is the compressor clutch or compressor itself.

I reviewed the warranty paper work from the Jaguar dealer and this appears to be covered under the 60 day 2k warranty. I sent an email to the dealer to get more info.

Thanks again,

The clutches on these are quiet when compared to most cars so listening for a click is not the best way to diagnose an issue. You can visually inspect the compressor to see if it is cycling or not. If it is, you most likely have low freon and need a recharge.
