Potential 00 XJ8 VDP Purchase
Hi to the X308 forum from the X400 Forum.
Reason for this thread is because of a potential purchase that I want to take my changes on. It is up for sale 1200, with 97000 miles.
There isn't much in the Ad but, upon contacting the seller, he gave me the following description:
I went to go see it today and I can confirm it is in Restricted Performance Mode, with all of the drivers side cylinders misfiring I did notice that the whole left cylinder head is shaking but the right one seems to be fine (when both were touched).
Besides the engine fault, it is kept really well including the body and interior. I am willing to take a chance and I am pretty mechanical as well.
Any preliminary ideas or opinions?
Thank you!

By the engine running rough I mean that it seems to be running down a cylinder. I have not had a mechanic look at it. I checked the front of the engine to make sure the tensioners and timing chain were intact and they are. That was my biggest concern. I daily drove it for two years. One day in bumper to bumper traffic it blew off the upper radiator hose. It did not overheat. I replaced the hose and filled it with coolant before restarting the car. It did not want to restart and when it finally did it sounded like this. I was able to drive it home but then parked it

If you have a basic grasp on what codes it's storing, then always test the battery as that is a major culprit for throwing phantom errors etc. I'd say go for it, but be sure it hasn't jumped timing from faulty tensioners or blown the head gasket & pay accordingly.

It didn't seem like a head gasket as there was no white smoke when I went. The owner claims that the timing didn't jump when he checked but, the car does have plastic timing components as per the VIN.
He seems to be firm at his 1200 dollar price and, I don't want to beat him up. But, I still want to pay accordingly.

Truthfully @ that price I'd be game as I'm currently looking @ paying that much for just the rims it has lol. That price point allows for the big tensionser upgrade, as long as it hasn't already did it's damage. Nice mileage w/ a great interior is getting harder & harder to find w/ the X308.
Thanks!
