Default Power Loss

I have a 2001 XJ8 and for the most part it runs great. Lately on occasion I will be driving along and experience a total loss of acceleration and power causing me to have to pull to the side of the road. I can shut the car off and restart it and it runs fine again. When this happens the car doesn't shut itself off, it simply runs at minimal power. Has anyone experienced this and better yet found a solution? Thanks in advance for any help.

You might be experiencing a loss of fuel pressure, among many root causes. There is a pressure port on the engine fuel rail to connect a pressure gauge.

Sounds like it could be throttle body issues. Does the car go into Restricted Performance mode, and say "ASC not available" and "Trac not available"?
