power steering fluid squirting out of reservoir
I have my X308 up on blocks at the moment, and while taking the opportunity to check for play in the wheel bearings and ball joints while they are load free, I moved the steering from lock to lock by pushing on the wheel. I was surprised when a hefty spurt of power steering fluid shot out from the fluid reservoir, from
under the cap. I did it again and the same thing happened!
Ignition is off and engine is not running. Seems weird to me, is it that easy to overcome the pressure in the power steering system so easily or do I have a problem? The steering has been heavy in this car for awhile.

Mine does the same thing. I've taken it as a sign to avoid doing that quickly, slowly in small amounts seems OK.
Heavy steering could be other things, maybe the variable assist solenoid on the PS rack is disconnected/stuck in highway mode (I forget if it's active low or active high for the reduced assist), or something else entirely. Think there's a diagnostics flow chart in the workshop manual for the symptom of heavy steering.
