Default Programming Fob for 2001 XJ8

I have tried the "pull back the high beam, insert key, release and pull four times" method as well as the "insert key turn to position 1 and then back and forth four times" method and get zero response. I have the original fob but battery was replaced and need to reprogram it but the methods that other people have used seem not to be working...any thoughts?

If your car is 2001 then it's an X308 (VIN has an 'F' 6th digit from the end) and you should post in the X308 subforum
XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

This is the X350, 2003-9, subforum.

Hi Dedalus,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

I have moved your post from the forum for the X350 to the forum for the X308, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 2001 XJ8. Here you will find knowledgeable owners of similar cars.

Please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.

Cheers,

Don

There are times when you simply need to use PDU, WDS, IDS etc to 'Clear lost keyfob transmitters'. I have had to do this a few times.

Then you can add transmitters (up to 5).

There are 2 different transmitters for the X308s (1998-2000 and 2001-2003)

Search for the keyfob differences on the forum.

Great info.
I have been racking my brain trying to figure out why my fob won't work.

About 6 months ago I changed the SLCM in the 2002 car with one from 1999.
Everything worked except the key fob.

So, I guess I need to find a key fob from a 1999????
Would that solve this?

You need a keyfob transmitter from a 1997-2000 XK or 1998-2000 XJ.

Bovb,

Thanks! I think you gave me the information I need but hey I did not understand the abbreviations. Specifically what does this mean? "you simply need to use PDU, WDS, IDS etc to 'Clear lost keyfob transmitters'."

PDU=Portable Diagnostic Unit
WDS= Worldwide Diagnostic System
IDS= Integrated Diagnostic System

The tools we used at the dealer.
