Project Car XJR.

Project Car XJR.
I want to get an XJR. I love my XJ8 don't get me wrong it is a beatiful car drives smooth and its just a car I can cruise around in. And there is no way I am going to sell my XJ8 or anything. I want to buy a XJR but not one that I can pick up and ready to drive. I want one I can fix up, like a salvaged XJR ( minor accident) not a flooded car or one that was caught on fire. Money isn't an issue, but i don't wanna pick up a $500 XJR and spend $5k on it. Good Idea or not? Btw if I get the car and it is too much. I will keep the car as a parts car for the XJ8. I want XJR parts like the seats, Asteriod wheels, mesh grille and a few miscellaneous parts.

When you find that ride to begin the adventure, you may want to try this site for parts... Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market I just got a beautiful Penta rim out of Blacksburg SC for $50 +$25 shipping.
For whole cars, if you've never been, check this site out... https://www.copart.com/ ..its free to join. Yes, most of the cars are wrecked, but go through the panel on the left and prompt the damage type your willing to accept (Normal Wear, Minor Dents Scratches). Absolutely do not buy any car documented with Certificate of Destruction. It will never be allowed on the road under its original VIN again no matter what. You can't even strip it and take it to a junk yard to dispose of.

Hey dude, some things can fall in your lap. Check out this stunning beauty that is coming up for sale in this thread... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-52060/page34/ Minimal to no body and interior work to allow you to customize things (wheels, brakes, upgraded SC, paint). I know you said you wanted a fixer upper, but you'd seriously be throwing good money at bad and be upside down and you can't argue that the red stitch isn't awesome.

If this is drive able, could I drive it down to SC with tags first insuring it? And it would need body work. It is a Super V8 after all...

Anything is possible, and if it drives, sure, you can drive it. I mean, there's no guarantee once it's off the lot and unless it comes with a glove box full of service history, there's no telling if anything is going to go on it. Personally, I'd question their blue book value figure, as for that kind of money, you could get something in much better condition. You're going to be spending a fair amount just on the body work. The fender is easy, but you have the damage to the door, the rocker, and that's not to say if anything got tweaked underneath. I guess if it went cheap enough, it'd be a decent enough buy, but I'd hold out something a little more intact.

Cool project thinking!
On the Super V8, besides of the technical state, watch it: The interior and wood, as well as the wheels, seem to be from a Vanden Plas, but the front grill, front splitter and rear plinth are not, they are from a standard car.
Might be a standard XJR which was modified, here you got your project .

I Believe it is a Vanden Plas Supercharged. I'm confused why the grille and rear chrome trim are from the standard xj8. When i pulled up the vin it says 2002 Jaguar XJ 4dr Sdn VDP Supercharged VIN: SAJDA25B12MF46374

The only thing I warn is it might have been heavily crashed, then rebuilt on the cheap.
A Vanden Plas came with leaper, fluted grill, short fluted plinth, and chrome splitter as standard.

If it is a 2002 or 2003 then it is called a SuperV8 instead of VandenPlas supercharged. In 2002-2003 the Super V8 came with the standard grill and plinth and not the fluted ones. I actually took a 2002 Super V8 for a test drive last Sunday, fast car, since I am used to a 96 XJ6! Great supercharger whine!

I wouldn't even bother repairing the current door. I would scout out another door and fender then have it painted. Less bondo = higher quality finish. Currently showing as a Chicago car, I'd be concerned about rust so take that into consideration. If those wheels got chromed and you got the center caps in chrome, that would look amazing!

That sure would be a good one to work with OMG. Yes its a project, but it is in ILL and the frame really should be looked at. I'd also be wary of the open window and that may almost assuredly mean new carpet. But for the price you could get it for ($250-500) it could be worth it. Don't forget the cost to get it home. Just an FYI, I had just rented a one way Penske flat bed hauler for $107 for the week. Brought the girlfriend, dog and car from Dallas to Orlando.

You might want to consider getting yourself a good buying guide.
I used this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-Daim...8AAOSw1LRZq-Kz
The author Peter Crispin is still active on another Jaguar forum.
Good luck

If I was going to do an XJR I'd do a total strip to shell and bring it back up that way, a good project to keep me out of trouble for a few years.
Good Luck with your endeavour.
