Default Proper Sealant

Inside the cam cover, passenger side, there is a plate (plastic type) holding the metal meshes in place. It cam e loose so I removed all the sealant, which seems like glue/foam material. Very hard, and chip it away. Now I need to replace the sealant, have no idea what to use. Subject to heat, oil of course, but I know a flexible sealant wasn't used. Any help please. Seemed to be very rigid and brown (color could be from oil) although may set differently. Would any good sealant work?

The original is likely a hot melt adhesive, perhaps urethane. If it were mine I would probably look for a used cover first because I'm not comfortable with the Permatex.

I just don't have a better idea.

Thanks RJ- The cover I see on ebay is not as good condition as mine, well except the plate is attached. It does appear a hot melt adhesive was used, could you suggest an alternative to used covers? New ones are around $300-$400 Any other adhesives?

Decided to good go with the best quality used cover I can find. I did speak with Permatex, they said they had nothing for me to use, they admitted it is an interesting idea, a sealant/adhesive that would work in that environment. Thanks RJ
