Default Propshaft Problem - Part Numbers?

Hi all
I have just got my 2002 XJ8 back on the road after rebuilding the rear axle/suspension.

Very happy that all the rattles have gone and I think it steers better too but I have a new noise... there is a clunk when going from over run to power and vice versa which I believe to be the prop shaft UJ.
With the vehicle on level ground, handbrake off and trans in Park there is an audible clunk from under the car when rocking it back and forth. Assuming it isn’t a driveshaft (half shaft) that I have messed up I fear it must be the UJ adjacent to the centre bearing on the prop shaft…Does anyone have part numbers for both the centre bearing and the prop shaft UJ? – might as well do both I suppose. The rear Jurid looked OK when I took the axle out but the manual says don't touch so would you change them too? The car is a 2002 XJ8 based in UK with 150,000 miles.
Thanks in advance
Paul

I'd inspect the jurid's and change if they are showing any signs of cracking or deterioration. I did this job recently and found that my transmission side jurid had visible wear once it was removed. The UJ you can probably feel for some play in if you grab the yokes and try to rotate or shift them around. The center bearing carrier can be harder to see wear in just due to how it's mounted.

I also found that I had some slight wear in the spline interface between the two halves of the propshaft, and I could feel that lash very slightly if I tried to rotate each half of the driveshaft by hand. Not much that can be done about that except for greasing the splines and waiting to see if it gets any worse.

Hi 'Paul in Sussex', it's Paul from the North East UK. I read with interest your posting regarding the prop on your car, I had the same problem and eventually found someone in the UK who keeps the parts, can do it for you, and charges extremely reasonable prices for doing everything including centre bearing, U'J, and balancing, he even painted mine for me.
