Default Radiator fan fuse keeps breaking

Hi,

second time in a month, i was driving in traffic and temperature went to maximum and red light went on. Pulled over and fuse nro 14
-cooling fans left-hand fast

Was blown, changed that and everything ok. What could be the reason that it is blowing this fuse?

Possibly the fan is partially seized or having a partial short in its windings. Check (with the fuse REMOVED for safety) whether you can easily turn the fan by hand.

When I worked at the dealer and had customer pay fan assy replacements due to one fan failing, I would save all the functioning fans and test them for operation and CURRENT DRAW.

The fans that exceeded 30 amps were discarded and most would read 25 amps while operating 12 Volts.

You might run each fan individually with 12 V and check current draw.

A 30 amp fuse will struggle to keep up with a 30 amp draw?

Jaguar sold the fans as a SET but they can be replaced individually.

Thanks for replying. Fan is turning easily. No idea how to run them individially and check current draw. Can i just put 40a fuse if it is drawing more than 30a?

If the fan(s) is/are drawing much more than 30 amps, a 40 amp fuse will probably keep from melting but the wires might not hold up too well?

Found this:

At least to eliminate that single pressure switch?

good point about those wires, maybe i just try to find the problem

That TSB is for the inline AJ16 engine car.

As also advised by "motorcarman", a higher amp fuse is a no-no. When no fuses are blown, are both of your fans running normally, i.e. both spinning at low speed and, if required, both at high speed?

so i started my car and put ac at max cold, and at least that fan that is visible on engine bay looked like it was spinning at max speed. It spins and then it stops and then it starts to spin again. Somekind of interval which looked like it is operating as it should.

You need to observe both fans. With the AC on, the fans should first start at low speed and, if the AC demand is higher (like max. cold, hot day), both fans should switch to high speed and, after some time, back to low speed. If only one fan is running and only at high speed, the other fan might be "dead" and this can cause the fuse of the running fan to blow.

did this, and the lower fan isnt spinning at all. Upper is spinning only at max speed. Because its blowing that left hand fuse, could there be some wiring issue as in short circuit that when it tries to start that lower fan it just blows the fuse?

You earlier said that you replaced Fuse 14 (left fan) and that then everything was good. Now that you determined that the left fan isn't spinning, is Fuse 14 still good or blown? Did you have Fuse 12 (right fan) sometimes blow?

sorry for delayed answer. Fuse 14 is ok, and fuse 12 has never blown. What would be the best way to determine where is the problem, my quess would be that problem is in wires.

REMOVE THE FAN COWL ASSY. (2 plugs, 2 bolts)
Put 12 volts to EACH fan, one at a time.

If BOTH FANS are OK, THEN fault the wiring.

If ONE fan is faulty, replace it OR get a salvage FAN ASSY and install.

You are making this harder than it needs to be.
