Default Radiator woes

Well I found out how ridiculous it is just to get a radiator for an x308. My local radiator guy told me the only place he knew was the dealer and it would be close to $1000 list for one...screw that. I called Advance Auto and they found one for about $800, lulz! I then found a company online that has radiators for sale on a few different sites. It is a SILLA 2297A radiator, most places have it listed for just over $100, just about the price of a regular cars radiator...imagine that. The first place told me they were out of stock on the item after I had already paid for it. So, I ordered it from another and they told me its on nationwide backorder. I asked him when he thought they would have some in. He was like "Actually, we have 3 in stock, but we cant sell them to you because the manufacturer has decided the price was too low." What a rip off. I guess they wanna get $300+ for it, which still beats the OEM, but no one will sell it to me!

I have scraped the radiator on those parking lot bumper/wheel stop things a number of times, so I am going to try to remedy that situation after I get the new one installed. I dont know if I am going to lift the car slightly or make a shield out of 1/4" steel. We shall see what I run into! Oh the joys of owning a Jaguar.

Genesis Auto Parts has a direct fit radiator for 1998-2003 XJ8 -List Price of $107.81 less $10 coupon code (GAPRAD10) plus probably $8 to $10 Fedex ground shipping.
It says limited lifetime warantee??

Here is the weblink:

1998 Jaguar XJ8 RADIATOR RAD39159X2256A 4.0L V8 242 | Radiator | Jaguar Auto Parts

You might want to contact them.

11/22/2011, I posted this reply to another of one of the froum threads:

Another internet seller is genesis auto parts in California - has a 9 out of 10 rating with customers per bizrate.com. I called them this morning. They confirmed that the Radiator for the Lincoln LS (2000-2005) is the same part number they stock for the 1998 Jaguar XJ8. This radiator is exact fit and interchangeable with the Lincoln and the Jaguar.

I have never purchased anything from them - have not needed radiator yet.

Hi
Not sure why it does not fit.
It says exact fit - 1998 to 2003 XJ8 4.0
2004 to 2009 XJ8 4.2:

Radiator woes-98-03-xj8-radiator.jpg

Is there something wrong with the dimensions?

Here is another internet site where you can have a live chat:

http://www.radiator.com/

Here is part of my chat with them this evening:

There are a couple of different radiators, ranging in price between $99.00 and $299.00. We can get you wholesale rates on labor, assuming you went with our installation centers. That's about 1/3 what you'd pay at the dealer. Would you like me to get you an exact labor quote?

The mounts aren't right. There are pins on the top and pads onthe bottom for hangIng. I can't be sure on the dImensions. One side Of the stocker is very thin! Find an expensive one on eBay and you will see a Pic of it.

Its a sad day for me since I broke my "new" 00 xj8 radiator on installation! Better luck next time I guess.

Hello again
This online website sells radiators in Texas (1-800 Radiator recently opened their sixteenth distribution hub in Texas - new outlet will serve Corpus Christi).
Look at the webpage at this weblink:

They delivers brand new radiators to these customers within a couple of hours, and at competitive pricing.

Cool, I'm gonna give them a call! I see this in the yellow pages all the time, but never bothered with them before. Thanks for the hook up! I will let you know what I find out from them.

EDIT: Well it turns out I called these people the other day and they gave me the same story again...we dont have one anywhere in the nation so we will have to call the manufacturer when they open on Monday. Damn this car, lol.

Hi ixj8it
I just had a chat with auto parts warehouse. They have your Silla 2297A radiator in stock for $124.74 free shipping.

Here is the webpage link:

Silla 2297A Radiator | Auto Parts Warehouse

Here is a PDF file of the chat session I had with them:

nGen Customer Client.pdf

They said they have enough stock.

I told them that we would order the radiator thru their website.

Do report back if you order -- that would be a very good price. Picture?

Wonder where they make them?

Jim -- your the best with the PDF's !

China I would guess. APW was where I placed my first order and I thought I was so smart for getting one so cheap. Then I went to track it 2 days later and they send me an email saying they are out and its on backorder. So I went to stylintrucks.com and ordered one for about the same price, same deal. I got an email the next morning saying that it was out of stock. The third place I decided to call ahead of time and they said ooh its on backorder. Thats when I found out that backorder doesnt necessarily mean they are out. He said they were on hold from the manufacturer so they could make price adjustments. I would crap myself if I could find one of these that will actually let me buy it for $120.

BTW: Thanks for getting on the horn with them, Jim. I might try to do a chat myself because yes I am ready to order, I just hope they'll let me!

This Part is "less in stock." I have serious doubts that this persons name is Stanley. They seem more worried about placing the order than answering the question.

Hi
I called Auto parts warehouse a few minutes ago and complained about the customer service saying in the chat session that it was in stock. Now per my phone call they confirmed that the warehouse is out of stock on this radiator and it will not be in stock for another 2 or 3 weeks.

I said that they should indicate that on the webpage for this part.

Word! The website should reflect reality. I filled out the survey for the chat session myself and let them know I was disappointed. It seemed like the guy was more interested in getting credit for a sale than getting to the bottom of things.

I got a very decent used 00 XJ8 radiator for $120 shipped from Denton the other day, but I broke the LH tank. I am going to locate some tank gaskets and rod the core out and possibly reseal my old radiator too for a spare. I feel like such an idiot on breaking my "new" one though.

On the two lower mounts, mine was missing some of the rubber pad it sits on so my inner rigger told me to go cut a piece of sidewall out of an old used tire for a mounting pad. Silly old me didnt think about the fact that the sidewall piece I used on the LH side was thicker than the original pad. When I tightened down the plastic thing that goes across the top of the radiator support, it cracked right by the upper LH locating pin. I melted epoxy all over it and filled the car up, but now I have a seep I am gonna swap my old LH tank onto it with a new gasket and see what happens. It would be really sweet though if we could get a nice line on some radiators for a decent price. I think anything over $300 is highway robbery, even if the original is made by Denso-Marston. Thanks again Jim!

At first it sounds really strange that a shop that has stock cannot sell it because their supplier says the price is too low.

However ...

realise that many of the online sellers are nothing more than commissioned order aggregators for the stocking distributor or manufacturer who are drop shipping the goods.

In that case, the web site is not the actual seller and thus, does not get to decide whether existing stock gets sold or not.

At least with RockAuto you can get a real live person on the phone who will get you a firm answer one way or the other.
