ok - i've been battling with my rain sensor wipers in my jag, 2001 XJR R1 Spec, since i got her...it would drive me crazy that my auto sensing wipers would go on when i hit a bump or the car shook a certain way....i got a few new glue pads (LJD3850AA) from the dealer and have taken the sensor off and reattached it a few times and i still seem to have the problem of the wipers going off intermittenly...so now just the other day, i disconnected the sensor and drove the car the next day with the auto wipers on...low and behold the wipers went on when i hit a bump a certain way...how could that happen with the sensor not even connected...i think my problem may not have been the sensor or the glue pad, but something else...i am trying to figure out the mystery...i am thinking something in the wiper stalk might be shorting out? it only happens when the wipers are set to auto so anyone else have any ideas...a bad relay maybe? or a short in the control module ?

@pdog
I think you're on to something with the switch... I was thinking the same thing.... maybe a loose wire in there that actually turns the wipers on when you knock it. But then again, if it only does it on AUTO, your other scenarios could be possible also..... I wonder what the "signal" is that comes from the sensor..... does it change resistance or something ? do the wipers operate if you short out the sensor ? (If they do, then you could have a short somewhere else) if the wipers don't work when you short out the sensor (because the sensor isn't working solely on voltage, it's some kind of resistance) then it's more likely to be the column switch ?
