Default Re-keying the door lock cylinder

Does anyone here know how to take apart the door lock cylinder so the tumblers can be moved/removed? I am going to be inside my door soon, and want to look into this some more. I think someone has replaced my door handle before I got the car and didnt put the original lock back in it.

Are the tumblers numbered like GM cars? Does anyone know where to get the correct order/code? I dont think the dealer would like to give up this info unless we were face to face and I could prove its my car. I have never messed with Jaguar locks, so let me know! Thanks in advance!

Search on "TIBBE".

There are a few posts with links to sites that show you how to decode a tibbe key. There are only 3 possible cuts in each of the eight positions.

The last such post was a couple of days ago.

You could just ask a locksmith about recoding after removal because you are going to need the internal bits.

I used one of these kits, used my right hand drive outer lock mech, and dropped the lh tumbler set into it, works like a charm. I've pictures I'll see if I can locate them on the process...
JAGUAR FULL LOCKSET LOCK SET X300 XJ6 XJ8 BRAND NEW | eBay
absolutely the best thing if your down to one key. Very cheap compared to a dealer, left hand drive also.
Once installed the keys need programming to the car's security module, done with either IDS (Dealer software) or Autologic.
A Jaguar tech advised not to put the ignition lock in until at the dealers (so it can be driven there) It's a simple job anyway.

Man thats too bad. The nearest dealers are in Austin/Dallas. Do you think a ford dealer could do the programming?
EDIT: On the upside, I am very impressed with how affordable those keys are. Of course, I need to know how many pounds=$1.

About 50 bucks' - for $500+ dealer charged kit nice eh! You'd have to ask the service manager if they have the Jaguar software - the Ford hardware is the same, but not the software - have you a Landrover dealer closer? or a Good indy Jaguar garage? There's a thread on here of members in the USA who have and are willing to use IDS - maybe someone is close to you?

Didnt I read somewhere that the 97 and older keys dont have a transistor or whatever it is inside the plastic? I think mine does have this. Do you think they would ship to me? I have never had anything from the UK.

That is a very good price, but I am having trouble finding someone who can program these keys though. I would even be happy with disabling the security system. Perhaps I should super glue my stock key to the steering column right by the antenna similar to how they do remote start installations, and then run these keys to control my locks? Let me know what you think!

That would work but invalidate your insurance - I'm sure they'll ship to you - if not I can, so there's a way. Try and find someone with the IDS/Autologic software.....

I dont think it would matter to me about not having full-functioning security. Nobody is going to steal this thing from me unless they do it at gun point. Do you know off hand if these keys in the auction have the transistor pellet inside?

There is an OLD TSB for the TIBBE key info.
This bulletin is for the 1990> keys but the info can be used as a guide.

The TSB is 76-64

I tried to upload but the TSB I created from the paper bulletin is over 2MB and won't upload to the forum.
I did upload it to the 'sticky' section a while ago.

The later keys are a '4 cut' type so be aware of the differences.

Are you saying that the locks in the auction arent 4 cut keys like you say my 99 VDP already has? If so, would I have any problems since I would be switching out all the locks anyway? It sounds like this is an excellent and relatively low cost way to get locks back in my VDP. As I said before, I dont care at all about the security as long as the key by the steering column is a viable option. Cheap is good for me right now. Please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

The X308 should have '3 cut' keys. The X200/202, X400, X350 etc. should have the '4 cut' keys.

The US model 1998 MY> (onward) have a transponder in the key. You can use the old type keys but they will not start the car. When you order a new lock barrel for a car using the VIN you will get a cut key WITHOUT the transponder, just a cut key. You can open the doors etc. but it will NOT start the car and cannot be configured to the KTM.

Look at the TSB 76-64 and you can see how the plates are stacked in the key barrel.

I have a plastic 'baggie' full of TIBBE lock barrels and keys from YEARS of replacing locks at the dealer. I used to swap the old locks to new handles so the original keys would work the locks and the customers were glad I did this for them.

Some other shops just replace the handles and hand the customers the new keys and tell them to get used to having a bunch of keys to the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have looked in the sticky section and am having trouble finding tsb 76-64. I am really excited about this development though. How many years is it usually until the transponder in the key wears out? Am I reading this correctly...you are able to remove the plastic part of the key and put it on another? Thanks, there is all kinds of good info in this thread!

I cannot find the TSB 76-64 in the XJ40 section where it should be.
It will not upload to the forum attachments.(file too large)

The old TIBBE keys have 3 'cuts'.
A=2=Half cut
B=1=No cut
C=3=Full cut

The newer keys have 4 possible cuts.

I don't know anything about cutting keys open to replace transponders.

Damn, give you an inch......

Bob, it is included in the block of TSBs that Translator has linked to in post #2 of the TSB thread in the XJ40 section. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...t-s-b-s-27317/
Will that work? I'm guessing that you would prefer a list of links for each individual TSB?

I did not see it in the list between 70-28am and 76-91.

The reason it is such a large file is because I scanned the paper TSB in .jpg and then inserted to WORD doc. Then converted to .pdf with Adobe Acrobat 4.0 years ago.

Round about way but it was what I had at the time.

You're right Bob, it is included on the TSB list that is on the mediafire account that I meant to link to. Saturday morning is my excuse!
I'll just do what you asked in the first place and add the link from this thread to the XJ40 sticky.

Should be good now post #4 on the link above.
