Hey Folks,
I was in a rear-end collision, fortunately nobody was hurt.
However I am wondering if you think my xj8 can be fixed, it looks pretty bad
I still drove 100 miles back home after the accident and it still runs pretty smoothly.
Any advice would be appreciated.
That said, it looks to be a $15000 plus fix: far outside the book value of the car -- your insurance company will want to write it off. Let them, but tell them to find you an equivalent at auction.
Now if you have really big enough bucks to fund it yourself -- sure it can be fixed!
I rescued a, new car smell, escort station wagon that was far worse off. The engine was crushed against the firewall. I did everything myself except straighten the frame. I got the cheapest after market parts, air bags too. It took about six months.
The car was fine for several years and over 100,000 more miles after the accident. I was very proud of myself.
One thing to consider, as motorcarman points out, cheap aftermarket Jaguar parts are hard to find.
If you decide to repair it, I know a guy, who sells used parts. I can give you his info via other channels.
This appears to be an easy do it yourself. As from what the few pictures show is, it needs a Hood, a Grille, A bumper Cover, and some Lights. The fenders don't appear to be touched. If you want it perfect, then It's probably hurt bad enough to total it. If you want to keep it, and drive it. Then it's completely fixable. jeffxj8 has offered someone to help with parts. I'd have it fixed in a couple days, and put most of the insurance check in my pocket. That is if you can even buy it back from the insurance company, if they total it. Just some food for thought.
Don't know what part of CT your in, but sign up at Copart and you'll find this at the Hartford yard. It shouldn't go for no more than $1500. If you are interested, I highly, highly recommend you visit the yard. Don't trust someone else's pics or descriptions.
