Default Rear end 'oscilating' on tramlines

Hi there,

my old banger aka XJ8 is causing me a few headaches at the moment. When driving on tramlines the rear end seems to be very nervous and will start to swing/oscilate from side to side.

No matter if going 20, 30 or 50 kph. It gets really violent. The tyres are fine and nearly new.

Is this a sign that I will be needing some new bushes? If yes, what ones? From the front or rear carrier?

Cheers

Damien

give your wheel bearings/diff output bearings a test: jack the car up, grab the top and bottom of the wheel and wiggle. If it moves try and see if the motion is at the wheel bearing or diff output. Any excessive play can cause pretty good camber changes.

I would think the rear mono brace would do more to stop lateral motion, but any failed rubber in the mounting system could cause the issue. Best to get it on a lift/stands and take a look at everything.

The very first thing to check is rear alignment, and especially toe.
