Wasn't that easy, few bucks more, a newer one.

 

I was worried about insuring my XJ8, given the abysmal insurance valuations compared to what I have in the car (and my attachment to it). I ended up getting an agreed-value policy for not much more per month than a regular policy. Gives me peace of mind, and I recommend looking around for the same type of coverage.

 

At this point for me, mon frere, I'd be locking the door after the house has been robbed.

That is an issue, unfortunately. I had to agree to an annual mileage limit, which is just fine for me as this is our "weekend" car.

 

My XJ has agreed value on classic insurance, the insurance themselves valued the car at £6000+. In the UK the X308 is starting to gain classic status and there are many people out there who use them as classics. Although there is nothing wrong with using a classic car as a daily car, I don't. I've insured all my XJs as classic in the past and it's for anyone, not just collectors. I've found it's important to make sure you give yourself the best protection with insurers, so if you can get agreed value, get it.

 

Update on car: I got Geico up to a total $6,812 from the original of $6100 ish.

Yay. I am taking the money and running. There's a 2008 528i sitting in the drive way now. Wish me well. I will come back to British if/when I get my life into suitable order.

I do know of a decent wreck in KY if anyone wants parts.

I miss my XJ8L: at the car show today, sat in the new Lincoln Continental. Pretty close to the big Jag for a lot less money.

 

Did you ever get the salvage value?

Chubb is my insurance company and they provide for both agreed value and a buy up when insuring an older luxury car ... The payout can be 2x or 3x when something happens. I lost three cars in a fire and would have given up a combined 50k w/ typical insurance. Rental and towing is often only $15.

In many states when it's simple math that totals a car -- they just deduct the salvage value from the payout and cut you a check .. no salvage title.

On my company policy -- MB wagon was totaled ... the salvage value was only $299 and i was able to get it back on the road for under 3k with a 7k payout.

 

I didn't get the salvage value. I really don't have the time or inclination to restore and maintain a second car. I wish it were otherwise, but unfortunately I've been bludgeoned over the past two years with my powerlessness to improve/control my circumstances. But that's a long, sad, and tangential story.

As for the BMW, I've been Bimmer-curious for years, so I might as well experiment now.
