Quick note especially for the european members (or at least from countries where you can buy parts of french Citroen cars), if this is not already known: the dimming rear view mirror can be repaired by yourself (just did it myself) by opening the housing and exchanging the glass - as a low cost solution. Take the X308 mirror off the front screen, then separate the housing of the mirror (by very carefully and very patiently prying along the "seam" - try to not break the plastic!). The defective or leaking mirror glass can then be removed. An electronic board of the X308 mirror is glued on the back of the glass - and two wires from this electronic board attached with a number of very small metal clips to the top and bottom of the glass. You have to pry off/detach and reuse both!
Now the trick: the glass of a dimmable mirror from a french Citroen C5 III fits exactly into the X308 housing - as mentioned you need to glue the electronic board of the back of the X308 glass on the back of the Citroen glass and the small metall clips with the wires from the electronic board need to be attached to the new Citroen glass also. Once you have separated the housing of both mirrors, it is obvious what and how to exchange. As the Citroen C5 is from 2008 (or younger) the dimming glass of the Citroen mirrors should last a while in our X308.
Then place the complete Citroen glass with the attached X308 electronics at the back into the separated X308 mirror housing, put it together (glue it if necessary or wrap and cover for example with a black fabric tape along the seam especially in case you broke the plastic surround). Done.
You can get a matching Citroen C5 III dimming mirror/glass from a recycler here starting at a good 20US Dollar and you need about 45 minutes labor to replace the glasses. I can post a picture of my repaired mirror tomorrow, if needed. I`m pretty sure that in the US you can also find mirrors with dimming glas of the same shape, if you check with some recylers/breakers.

Leaked chromatic fluid
Back in late January the wife and I joined our Jag club for a local run. Upon arrival at the Mount Annan Botanical Gardens (here) I parked up in the carpark amongst about 30 other Jags of all types. We then joined everyone for a very enjoyable chit chat and morning tea before leaving to adjourn to a local Hotel for lunch. But when I returned to the XJR the mirror had suddenly turned all misty...... Strange thought I. After getting home and looking through the forum I discovered this was indeed a known problem. Then someone mentioned "leaking". At least mine hasn't done that thought I..... A week later I uncovered the XJR to take her out again, and this is what confronted me:
The mirror is now at Global Battery Solutions in Michigan (after 15 days in transit from Australia), and I am hoping they will despatch to return it to me early next week.
BUT - does anyone know how to remove chromatic fluid that has leaked? Rubbing alcohol removed it from the leather and wood, but nothing is shifting it from the gear selector plate..... (DAMN IT!).
