Rear window brake light fell off
Hey guys
Hopefully a simple one for you. The eye-level brake light on the rear parcel shelf fell off ('99 XJR). It seems it was actually stuck to the glass. Any ideas what I should use to stick it back on ? I dont want to use epoxy glue if there is in fact a specific product I should be using.
Thanks in advance.

This is how I did it. (03 XJR)
I went to the friendly neighborhood auto parts store and bought two rearview mirror adhesive kits. (This light is attached in the same way). You have to detach the metal contact pieces that attach to the glass and to the plastice frame of the light. Clean the pieces thoroughly to remove any old adhesive. Dryfit the contact pieces and mark the glass with a grease pencil around the outside of contact pieces. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS WHICH COME WITH THE KIT. Do one piece at a time since you need to hold it in place for several minutes and the adhesive from the first kit won't work by the time you get to the second one. After the pieces are stuck to the glass you need to wait, again follow the directions.
I think the reason a lot of people have problems with this is that the adhesive takes a while to fully bond. Even though it looks like superglue it is a different animal. Hanging a weight on it before it is set up leads to premature... failure.
Clean the grease pencil marks off the glass. In fact just go ahead and clean the whole area. This will be your last chance to get this part of the window clean without a hassle.
Snap the light in place and you are good to go. When you are done it will look like it did when it left Coventry.

And the award for creativity goes to.....
Step 1. Find a shoe box or anything that is made of stiff cardboard. (and preferably glossy cardboard the same colour as the car interior)
Step 2. Cut a piece out, bend it into a "V" shape and wedge underneath the offending falling off rear brake light
Step 3. Marvel at your creativity :-)
