Default rearview mirror connection ?

My car had a bad mirror when I bought it - about 75% black. I removed old mirror only to find it was not connected in the overhead console. I cannot find where it would connect. Is it possible the car came without auto-dim and someone just stuck an auto-dim mirror up there ? was auto-dim an option ?
Specifically, where is the connecter located inside the overhead console.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jim

Generally, you should have auto-dim as standard, with auto-lights as an option.

Wire-loom with several wires goes up through the mounting bracket and hinge, ending in a rather big connector.
In my car this connector is yellow (auto-lights), but I remember there are also white ones.
It fits in a female connector, which is hanging behind the console, which you can't miss, unless it is cut off, or disappeared behind the roof lining.

I appreciate your response, but the big question still exists - is autodim an option on the XJR, or is it standard ?

As far as I remember, every U.S. spec X308 I have ever worked on has had AUTO-DIM and TWILIGHT SENTINAL and most 2000MY> also had AUTO-WIPE for the windscreen.

The AUTO-DIM and TWILIGHT SENTINAL mirror will have a YELLOW 6 wire connector.
The added AUTO-WIPE for the windscreen will have a WHITE 9 wire connector.

SYBESMAS will rebuild your mirror for around $100.

Bob, thank you..... The mirror I bought is good and is a yellow 6 wire connecter. When I lowered the overhead console I discovered the old mirror wasn't connected, just laying up in the console. After replacing the mirror, It then dawned on me that I couldn't find the find the female connecter up there. I'm going to take it apart again to see, as suggested in an earlier post, if the connecter is maybe shoved up into the roof pocket. If auto-dim is standard, it's got to be up there somewhere ! I'll post my results.

OK, I'm at a loss ! There is not a female connecter up there and no sign of any cut wiring. At this point I just have a normal mirror........ but if anyone can provide further direction I would be ever grateful !!
