Default Refinished rims/ New tires

Took my 02's original 18" Asteroid rims up to Wheel Collision Center the other day -- going to have them straightened and refinished. I decided to put Continental DSW's on the car - will report on what I think of "all season" tires on the car. I had Tirerack send the tires to WCC for mounting.

All four rims after inspection were "out of round" -- couple of actual flat spots on the inner lips from pot holes. Figured I would make them all pretty!

I have the same setup Yeldogt. I will not purchase the DSW again, they came with my rims. They look great, however had to adjust the air pressure to get them ride right. Not very stable in snow either. Maybe they will be better for you. If tracking occurs, reduce pressure to 40 psi, worked for me. Your experience would be helpful to me as well. Maybe you will find a better psi to run than me.

Please share costs and time too, along with pics...I am thinking the same. Thanks in advance.

REDUCE pressure to 40 psi?!? Good lord man, why were you running that much pressure to start with? Of course the ride is going to be harsh when they're so over inflated. You should be running them in the mid 30's around town. I run 34 psi front and 36 psi rear on my Hankooks, and even that is kind of tight. Your average street tire will run best around 32-35 psi. The only time I ever put the tires over 40 psi is when I autocrossed it to prevent sidewall rollover, and of course it rode like a rock with the tires that inflated.

I agree. I was following the handbook for not recommended tires, it says 44psi cold...I would like to run them lower, say around the 35 range, that would be perfect. Any reason you think I shouldn't try? Maybe that's why they are terrible in the snow as well. Thanks for your input

I was a bit hesitant with the DSW's .. as they previously had sidewall problems. I heard this is no longer the case as the tire had been redesigned. Tirerack said it was an early issue .. and now offer free road hazard on that tire because of the old concern.

The original OE tire was Jaguar specific -- it had a reinforced sidewall for lower pressure ... the newest version is different.

I'm looking at a bit over $800.00 + tax for the fixed rims and the new tires mounted/ balanced ... tires were also a bit over $800 delivered.

Luc: The guy at WCC indicated that the Asteroids are a popular wheel. WCC was one of the first in the wheel "fixing" business. I have used them before -- do a nice job. The painted wheels look "as new" when you get them back.

3 of the wheels are $175 and the 4th is $195 ... needs a bit more work. They can straighten a minor problem for $50 -- if the problem is on the outside the heat they need to apply will affect the paint.

My winter rims are from an 1998 XK8 -- I could do an exchange on them for $150.00 each .. they must have a set in stock. Most of the business is from dealers -- they want quick turnover. So WCC works on an exchange -- the damaged wheel is not worth much.

Picked up my wheels the other day. WCS did an excellent job. They look new .. simple as that. $800.00 -- tax and the mounting/ balance of the tires. They heat and true the wheels -- blast them -- powder coat and clear. Have put a few hundred miles on the car -- tires are very smooth and quiet. They don't have the "stick" of the PZero's ... feel a bit soft with fast lane changes.

Did go through some rain -- felt very good -- important in my area. With the coming storm on the east coast I may get to test them in the snow.

I was not able to drive the car back to WCS so my local guy installed them saturday morning ... gave me a chance to give the underside and suspension/ brakes a good look. Noticed that the tie rod end boots (outer) are cracking and my rear pads (original) are show signs of age. Not one sign of a leak or rust -- really clean under there -- quite amazing for a 13+ year old car.
