Default Reman V8 engine?

Hey everybody. I've been quiet lately. I started a new job at the local BMW dealer recently. I worked on BMW there before I was working on Jaguars there. I still enjoy my Jags and want to keep every one on the road.

Before changing jobs, I swapped out the 5hp24 in my friend's 99 VDP. Heavy son-of-a-gun, that trans was. Ran great for two months and I made sure he knew the engine was on borrowed time. Well, the engine finally wore out all the nikasil left in the cylinder walls and compression is not enough to run. I priced out the Jaguar exchange units at work and came across some outrageous prices. I even got the Parts manager to do just a tiny bit over cost and it was close to $8k for one version and $12.5k for the original version. Their cost was insane from Jaguar. I talked with my friend and that is certainly out of the question as he could buy two good running cars for that. He is invested in his VDP with the trans replacement and he really loves the car.

What we have discussed is a Jaguar reman (out of the question), a ebay used engine (questionable integrity of the actual engine). An aftermarket reman engine. Does anyone have any idea who to contact to get a price on one of these. I see two on ebay but they are in California.

Please help me keep another VDP on the road!
Thanks

I would just look for a good used salvage engine.

Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

I need a 2000-2003 XJR 4.0 engine for a car here in my shop.
Local engines are around $2500 to $3000.

The customer's wife 'WAS ALMOST THERE' and kept driving while the engine was overheating!!!! Melted the knock sensors into little black plastic puddles!!!!

good luck.

If you google "jaguar v8 rebuilt engine", the second hit is Black Dog Manufacturing. Surprised you haven't tried this.

They are sold through Coventry West. They just quoted me $5900 for the s/c version. Edit : oops, they are sold through Motorcars Ltd.

Thanks for the links. I am looking into all the options. I think we are going to go with a used one at this point. I just have to find the right one.

That sucks! We had a rover guy do that a few years ago. I think it was a BMW Range. He said he was in a bad part of town. LOL
