Default Remote fob only works close to the car

Untill a few days my remote only works when held close to the rear windows.

Put a new battery in the fob but still the same.

I also programmed my spare fob in the car ,but both do the same ,they only Work when held Close to the rear window/s

Gave my car a hard reset ,hope it solves ,but no difference .

I believe the rear window is the antenna ,any ideas what could be the

Problem ,reciever where is it located ?, loose antenna ,or both fobs gave Up.?

Any help will be apprecitated.

Go to the trunk and find this connector between the battery and fuse box. Make sure it's clean and tight. This is the antenna cable.

The cable runs to the rear screen inside and connects to it, if I recall the centre top, a little push on connector, check this end too.

Thank you for the input

Ok i pulled the plug from the rear window antenna and i noticed the fob works ever worse ,have to keep it just a bit closer to the rear window .

So the signal increases only a bit more with the antenna plug on

The heating/antenna elements in the rear window might have a internally Fracture ?

I wil clean the antenna plug between the battery and fuse box have to loosen the battery first to get to it .

Have had same issue a few times.

I usually recharge main car starter battery - especially if I have recently already changed key fob remote button cell batteries.

Had same issue on an 88 Vauxhall Carlton - charging car battery solved it.

I had the same issue. It was resolved by replacing car battery. Now it works much far from the car. Also old battery was wrong so i didn't know it was caused because it was old or because it had less mAh.

Hi I had this problem as well what worked for me was to take the key transmitter apart and clean the rubber contacts and the ones on the circuit board. Years of use and dirt affected the range

This worked well for me as well

If you have a carbon pencil you can run that over the contacts on the rubber buttons as well, as these can sometimes wear as well

I give up ...nothing helped months later ..both remotes stopped working

I Replaced the security module under the fuse box in the trunk

with the same part number ,its stil and before this with the old module

stuck in valet mode ..

I cannot get it out of F...stupid valet mode ,the remotes dont work anymore and

using black key in the door only opens and shut the doors and activate the

ignition NOT THE REAR TRUNK AND FUEL cap cover .

Both remotes dont work anymore and yes they have NEW batterys and i tried

one new fob nothing....

my trunk and my fuel cap cover doesn,t open ,and when i push the trunk

button from inside the car it beeps and the display says: Valet mode !!.

so back to the question above both my key fobs only worked when i put

them near the rear window and now STOPPED working?? Before this sh.. they worked from 50 meters distance

I cannot get the fobs working when i try to program them they just dont connect with the module in some way?? no beep on the console

What can i do ? any suggestions the Jaguar specialist says it has to come there to connect to a special Jaguar computer ??

I HATE THIS CAR IT DRIVES ME NUTS ,NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING HOW TO FIX IT

If the fob is still associated with the SLC, then it may be possible to get it out
of valet mode by holding the fob right next to the antenna connector with
the cable out.

Then you can address the range problem as a separate measure.

As suggested earlier, open the remote up and give the contacts a good clean with electrical contact cleaner, and possibly give it a few runs over with a carbon/graphite pencil as well.
New batteries are a good start, but over time oils and grease and other crap get in under the contact points of the buttons and weaken the connection. This should help with the distance issue.

Holding the fob up to your ear is also a good party trick

Thanks for the info. I actually found a tech sheet that says the antennas were supposed to be uncoiled and attached vertically to the panel during production but many weren't so that makes sense. I need to take a look at mine.
