Remote key fob malfunction
Hi,
My 2001 x 308 has the following problem:
Pressing the "Door Open" button on the remote keyfob works perfectly.
Closing with the remote, however, only works occasionally.
To close, I have to hold the remote in all sorts of awkward positions, at different distances, and then there is a chance that it works.
Now, the "Close" function stopped working altogether. I close using the key but can open using the remote.
Cannot be the battery, since the "Open" function works normally.
Has anyone got an idea how to repair this ?
Thank you.
Takeo.

Key fob, remote.
Hi guys,
Ok, I followed the instructions for cleaning with Isopropyl Alcohol.
But my key fob interior looks different, instead of having 4 printed circuit contact points, it has something that looks like 4 round, slightly protruding switches.
Tried again, unlock works perfectly at virtually any distance. Lock does not work at all. So I lock my cat now with the key.
Any other suggestions ?
Thanks,
Takeo.

If there is a local electronics repair shop nearby they should be able to easily replace it. Otherwise replacement fobs are also available on ebay and are not too costly.

Another question
Ok, when I get the new witches, I will replace just one.
Would you know the exact procedure of how to take one switch out and replace it.
Is it clipped, screwed ? Any soldering ?
No repair shops around here since I live in the middle of nowhere in South-West France (16320 ROUGNAC, pop. 400).
What about a drop of WD 40 or diesel oil on the faulty switch ?
One possibility is that the switch button is just stuck.
When I check it from close, under a magnifying glass, pushing on the switch does not show any in or out movement.
Thanks,
Takeo.

They are surface mount soldered. This is a bit tricky to repair and easy to damage the circuit board (that is why I suggested a shop) unless you have experience with this type of thing.
At a minimum you need a very small soldering iron (15 Watts) and a handheld plunger type desoldering tool, and some very fine 63/37 flux core solder.

XJ8 (X308) remote key fob
Hi having just bought my 2000 XJ8, the seller had two remotes but neither worked properly .He said batteries flat but was not the problem and new batteries no help. Tested old batteries each still 3 volts .Then took the electronic board out of its rubber surround for each remote and cleaned and dried the contacts under the buttons thoroughly with a tissue and Methylated Spirits as well as the connection for the batteries and the underneath of the rubber buttons. Installed the original two 3 volt CR2016 batteries positive side down as said on the black cover now both remotes work perfectly.
