Default Removal of Inlet manifold

Hi All,

First post so please go easy on me! Im having to take the inlet manifold of due to the heater matrix pipes running across of the top of the engine leaking like a civ.

Everything is off ready to remove but I cannot disconnect this pipe going in to the elbow of the inlet, how do I remove this please?

Its the T piece that connects to the elbow and carries on down the side of the block.

Thanks,
Sam

Default That's the driver's side breather tube

I just happened to break mine yesterday while dealing with other issues. Since my '99 is roughly 14 years old it was pretty brittle, which is understandable.

From what I gather, at least the way I got mine off, was to squeeze the part that looks like a band (right side of the part you have circled) on the top and bottom while pushing in on the tee. When you squeeze the top and bottom it causes the piece to oval, freeing up the clips on the sides. That might not be the official way to remove it but it worked for me. The part of mine that broke was the actual tube not the connection point. Luckily they can be found pretty easily online, just type Jaguar, your year and model, then breather hose, in a search engine and you should find one no problem. I'm about to order one now for $28.25.

Sorry, can you explain that again please, the hole thing seems to be able to rotate and the plastic clips don't seem to retain against anything

Default I'll try but it's kind of hard to explain

Looking at the image that you posted, the black ribbed tubing forms a tee where it clips onto the aluminum nipple. The aluminum nipple has a barb on its end. There is tension on the connection due to a rubber o-ring that seals it. You need to push the tee towards the aluminum nipple to slightly compress it, relieving tension, while doing so squeeze on the top and bottom of the black band (the furthest black piece to the right in the image). When you do so, if you look close you can see a thicker black shoulder next to the band, that's a ridge that catches the aluminum barb. When you squeeze the band it ovals the shape of the black connectors ridge, freeing it from the barb. The end of the nipple has a barb like this picture, don't pay attention to the threaded end.

Since my tube was broken, I was already a little ticked off about the whole situation, and I had a heck of a time trying to get mine off, I took a pair of pliers to mine. Due to age they're pretty easy to break and snap, and can be a bear to get off. Although maybe someone else has a better, more correct way to remove them.

I have broken one or two until i found the tool to remove them. The books all say there is a tool on the engine. The tool looks like a u shaped piece of plastic. You insert in inside the band and it releases the fitting. I found mine in a fitting underneath the throttle body. Check all of the similar tubes until you find one with a piece inserted. Pull it out and voila you have found tool. That is of course hoping someone else hasn't found it, used it and not put it back. When i finished my repairs i placed the tool in the low idle breather fitting. JTIS has a picture of the tool you are looking for and I have seen other pictures of it in threads on the forum. Search for fitting removal tool.

I just did this yesterday. You don't need to remove that connection. That is the part load breather hose. Remove it from the valve cover at the front, remove the rear end from the evap valve and leave the tee connected. Just pull the IM with it connected. It's a lot easier, and easier when you replace it.

Default The method I suggested was evidently wrong

This post about a coolant fitting is for the same kind of connector, and it's removal is no where near what I suggested. Sorry about that.
