Default removing fuel tank from trunk 98xj

Can someone tell me what to look for under the trunk to remove the tank. It is way underneath and right above the rear differential and i cant see any thing up there really.
A pic would help greatly, but I figure thats too much to ask.
thanks for any help,
Jim

It sounds like the fuel feed and return lines. They pass through the floor into the tank from right above the differential. They're held to the tank with quick release fittings but you need the special tool to release them. You can buy the tool from most auto parts stores. Comes as a set of white plastic rings in various sizes to fit several different fittings. About $12 U.S. You have to release them from under the car and above the diff. PITA to get to but they usually come apart rather easily if you know what you're doing. Don't spill fuel all over yourself or create a fire hazard please. The fittings are self sealing, when you remove the lines the fittings in the tank should seal and not allow fuel to come out but sometimes they can be sticky and not seal, be careful.

I got it out without removing the tank from the trunk,Thanks for your tips. I located those hoses underneath and they look like a huge pain so I just wiggled the tank and adjusted those hoses until I could tilt the tank forward enoght to just barley get the pump out.
I'm continuing this in my original thread "cat would'nt start"
Thanks again

I kept an eye on the two hoses that are underneath and I popped them out of the lil plactic holders so they could move around. I did not crimp or bend any of them except the large hose on top the tank that goes to the plastic tube with the special clip on the driver side by the filler neck. I just bend the rubber hose back and held it behind the lift strut for the trunk lid. Its a rubber hose it didn't hurt it at all and of course I didn't leave it there very long so it would not get a kink in it.

Greetings Jim,

Then that's a good piece of work you did. I have not tried it without disconnecting the fuellines, but Ihave seen the results of a few very crude attempts by others.

So did the pump fail, or have you seen a connection problem with the link lead?
