Your Jag needs to go on a flat bed tow vehicle. Any other towing method will cause damage to the suspension. You should not have to remove the drive shaft at all. Just shift to neutral and they can winch it on using the towing eye. Absolutely do not allow chain hooks to the underside.

Hi Avern ,

damage to sispension ??, you’ll have to explain that please as can’t get my head around how the suspension knows if it’s poeered or not

I do understand that autos can be damaged as the box is spinning due to diff feedback but no pump is running so oil starvation can occur

I disconnected drive shaft to isolate auto box from drive source

cheers for the feedback

Jaguar does not have anything under the vehicle for an attachment point of tow hooks. The winching onto a flat bed will not damage the transmission. Towing the vehicle with the wheels on the ground for a distance can damage an automatic transmission. I am not positive that applies to the ZF but does on the older GM and Ford transmissions.
Winching on with tow chain hooks from the front or rear will damage bushings and linkages that are not designed for that stress.
Jaguar has a tow hook location front and back for a flat bed recovery truck.

You could use the two front strap brackets mounted on the rear of the front subframe-body bolts...

so what im doing ive done for years and maybe not explaining corectly,im going to tow the jag with another car @ 10 miles to the gearbox repair center using a bar connected between tow cars and jags front and rear tow eyes under front and rear bumpers respectively.

ive disconnected the driveshaft as you say correctly you cant tow an automatic normally but as i've isolated the gearbox from the road wheels its ok....

Sure, no problem. But you are actually able to tow it in N. BUT no more than 20 miles at 20 mph. That is as it is written down for the Audi S8, RS6, BMW 7 Series and others with the same 5hp24 (if not the Mercedes tranny).

If it's going to the trans shop why worry about damaging it by towing it? It's already damaged, correct? Towing 10 + miles should not do further damage.
