This unit in the Jag is intended to be used as a sub, distributed by Alpine, and it is 6x9 format with dual voice coils. Can't quote a frequency range, but I can tell you it has poor high frequency and pretty good low frequency response.
The Retrosound dual VC 6x9's do not have the low frequency response nor the throw that we need... they're rather poor full range speakers with co-ax tweeters designed to play a stereo signal from a modern head unit in a car (like a 65 Mustang, for instance) that has a single 6x9 opening in the dash or parcel shelf.

A sub is a speaker. The cone is not capable of playing down to 30hz. No cone that size can. Its -6db roll off is prolly near 45hz. It does a respectable job for what it is and plays deeper than any other 6x9 I have ever heard and I did car stereos for over 15 years with well over 4000 installs.
As far as getting to 21khz? Not a chance. Maybe 500hz at best. Most tweeters can not play that high. Besides the human ear generally can not hear sounds above 20khz.

I have a used sub I got from a junkyard from a '02 XJR that has been sitting in my trunk for years as I have not gotten around to installing it. The foam surround is fine, but would you guys recommend that I use a speaker repair kit anyway since the speaker is 10 yrs old?
