Repairing constant on brake ligts
I had a problem with the brake lights staying on. I found if I put my toe under the brake pedal the lights would go off. At that point I decided to take a look at the switch assembly. I found the switch assembly required a little trick to keep them from staying on. You will never get the car to stay in cruise control and you may also get a code thrown which can go so far as to put your car into fail safe engine mode. This little fix takes care of all these related issues as well. I used a piece of carpet tape adhered to the spot you will see in the image which solves the problem.

My apologies to anyone reading this post for not making this more clear. The tape was placed at the point where the arrow shows the adjustable gap. In the photo you see the white plastic has a gray tint where I placed this foam padded tape. The failure in this two piece (white assembly) is the plastic is supposed to stay in position where you move it. Pressing the brake pedal isn't supposed to decrease this gap when you position it where required to turn off the lights. The knurls in the plastic were no longer able to withstand this press and would simply go back to zero gap. The tape forces a gap to remain even when pressure is applied.
