i have 3 days on a replacement trans now. upshifts are fine , but going into drive from park / neutral , is very rough. it feels like its slamming in. also downshifting when coming to a stop is harsh and feels clunky. i have read here that many have replaced their TCM in this situation. i have done the hard reset and drivien the car in sport and comfort, but it persists. question is... i found and ordered a replacement TCM , is this plug n play or do i have to take it to a dealer for some sort of reflash?
thanks... im looking forward to having a smooth running car again!! im close

I hate to be the grim reaper but that does not sound good. You say 3 days on a replacement trans.
Was that a rebuilt unit or just a second hand one from a breaker? Did you replace it yourself or at a garage? Has the fluid level been checked/set properly? Is it the right fluid? Even if it was a breaker unit you should have a warranty and I would be taking it back.
The symptom you describe is the classic trans failure which would get progressively worse until complete failure.
I hope your TCM does fix the problems but I would be surprised. I'm pretty sure there is no programming to do. Just plug it in.
Good Luck

it was a breaker unit with 74k on it. installed by an independent jag specialist. he replaced the pump seal , new filter and esso 71141 fluid filled and topped in the proper manner. he did replace the speed sensor because he saw the present one was damaged. there is a brand new torque converter in as well. i do have a warranty on it , but unfortunaltly no warrantys cover labor, which is most of the cost anyhow
