As for fuel, I believe it's pretty much the same quality, just the US uses a different measuring system so the octane numbers are lower. MON not RON, I think.

Don't floor the throttle too much then, it'll be running lean at high throttle with only one pump working. From memory the second pump comes in at near full throttle or over 4k rpm.

I used that photo in a Jag-Lovers forum post regarding "out the top" removal technique. I cut it out with abrasive wheels. No way would I remove the tank. I covered the top of tank to avoid sparks directly on the tank and hoses....It's discussed in the link.

So, the posted pic, is that yours or just one you borrowed to show your intentions? Because that one wholeheartedly appears to have been die ground, ..clean cuts. I don't see any warpage or fraying from the use of snips.
Your prowess to not permit you to go that route is saying your going to pull the tank into the boot?

Pull the relay in the boot & bridge the contacts, then you'll hear the secondary pump running in the tank if it works.

It's easy to cut out the opening with a Dremel, although I would use a plug-in version or an air powered cut-off tool versus a battery powered tool (I used both).
By the way, the first post in the current thread linked below mentions fuel pumps replaced at 36,000 miles. Hellooo! There are many such references. Yes, Jaguar purchased pumps from vendors, but Jaguar failed at setting the required quality/longevity standards and requiring test data that proved the off-the-shelf parts were up to the task. Mine actually failed at 38,000 miles, not 40,000. PS: There are no structural issues with a hole the size of the one depicted in the first post of this string.
