I replaced the starter on a 2002 XJ8. no crank after replacement, starter works (tested). How do I reset the security system so the starter will engage?

 

I had a similar situation recently, I got all sorts of warnings on my dash readout such as failed engine, suspension failure all sorts. Turned out I had had the car jacked way up high to get underneath on one side, and I'm not sure what it is called on a 2002, but my 1998 had a little black sensor behind the accelerator (RHD) with a reset button on the top, maybe it's the 'Tilt Sensor' I don't know, but fixed mine after resetting it...just press the button on the top if it's similar to mine? Yours might be on passenger side!
