restricted performance (air related)
Hi there,
Recently we couldnt start the Jag up (1998 XJ8).
Found out that common issue and started it, unfortuantly in teh process it blew the airbox to bits.
With the new box on, the car was taken out and all was fine, except eventually the "Restricted Performance" issue appeared.
We found the problem was due to the fact the lead wasnt plugged into the airflow sensor, but in the process, the plug was leaning against teh hot block of the engine and partially melted (still connected into socket fine though).
With it plugged in, we are still getting the error.
I have plugged in a nice little device into the OBDII port and got these errors:-
P0102 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input
P0112 Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Low
P1230 Unknown powertrain DTC (manufacturer fuel air metering)
Could it be the lead/socket damage or could a sensor or something else be damaged from the fact the lead was against the hot block of the engine and fried a sensor?
Any help would be great.
(the device i used to get the codes was a "carchip" by Davis.
My laptop OBDII cable just freaks the car out with all sorts of errors.
Many thanks,
Stuart

Had similar errors when I installed Mina "cold air" intake. The MAF sensor and computer went bezerk with error codes.
Does the restricted performance stay on after you restart the car? My guess would be the MAF sensor. Pull it out, and see if any dirt is in the socket. If it looks even slightly dirty, I used computer compressed air to blow it out and it worked fine since then.
