Hello my fellow Jag owners! Just had my overbleed tank and hose to radiator and engine replaced! thank god no more damn leaks..hehehe..anywho..before my mechanic left he started my engine and stated that the restricted performance light was on. Now this didnt happen until that last time i drove my xj8 which was like a week ago and the car started smoking very little! i immediately didnt drive it after this until i ordered the parts and they came in! He stated that if i take the car for a spin it should reset itself after the coolant recirculates through engine..and if that doesnt work I could take it to a shop and most do this for free. does this sound about right guys? My friend reccommended me to this mechanic and i hope he is telling the truth..besides that everything else seems to be working fine..please help!!! whats a gal to do! aaahhh! lol

Is the engine check light on (little orange light in the bottom of the tach housing) normally these two work together..when you lost coolant you upset the air fuel ratio, that would cause the lights to trigger..you will need to take It to a shop that has a code scanner and erase the codes..some shops will do It for free most will charge a small amount..only takes 10 minutes...

Coolant loss won't affect the air/fuel ratio-the 2 systems are different. I had a low coolant warning whilst removing airlocks but it didn't throw up the Check Engine light or Restricted Performance.
Either get a garage to read the codes, or get a cheap & cheerful code reader yourself-read the codes & then cross refer them online with the Jag 'P' codes. It's really easy & not expensive. Then you will know the problem areas yourself & the code reder can reset the Check Engine Light etc.
