Default Reverse Parking Aid.

My reverse sensor on the outter right is not connected with the sensor plug. I get the 7 second tone. Every time i try to connect the sensor with the wire it comes off it won't stay in place. I let my sister sit in the drivers seat and put the car in reverse with the e-brake set and the brake pressed. Whenever I have the reverse sensor plugged in it beeps but if i let go the sensor wire falls off it is not staying in.

Try using a small cable tie or zip tie as US folk call them to hold the sensor in place, or even a small amount of glue along the edge of the plug hole. Failing that, change the plug or sensor neither should be an especially hard job.

I can't see a part number for just the wire or the plug, but here's a screen shot of what Jaguar have for the harness. However, you'll probably find the plug is the same for something else on the car so could easily obtain one. I can't remember what the plug looks like at the moment.

Just turn the ignition on, not the engine, and select reverse. Make sure you put your hand brake on anyway.

It works perfectly fine. I put my finger near it it starts beeping than when I move away from the sensors sight it stops. Only thing is when I let go. What glue should I use? Or what should I use. I'm keeping in mind that this is near the exhaust.

You'll want to use an adhesive (chemical base), not a glue (water based),....like E6000.

Probably won't really make any difference, it's likely a different make of sensor or wire was used that generates a different part number. But if it's just a loose plug then I'd be inclined to glue it in or use cable ties to hold it in rather than go to the trouble of removing the loom and replacing it.

I did take the sensor out of the bumper and put zip ties with the connector but the connector has a short in it. when i move it to the left it starts to beep when nothing is there and when i move it to the right it has a continuous beep

You can replace the sensor on it's own, it clips into the part that you see on the bumper. I've just had a quick look on UK ebay and found several listed cheaply, around £30 which is half the price Jaguar are selling for.
The Part Number is XR86401 and it was fitted to several Jaguar models, so you should be able to find a replacement easily.

Default Rear Parking Sensors XJ8 2001 Failure

Thanks for this thread.
My XJ8 Parking Sensor is driving me crazy!
It emits the 7 sec loud Beep Most of the time, although if I shift into reverse sometimes really Slowly or if it's rained or really humid the Parking sensor works fine!
The sensors emit the expected clicks and I've replaced the module in the trunk.
My theory is - is there a switch in the shifter mechanism that might have gone bad or shorts out most of time but works sometimes?
Thanks
JP

Sorry to jump in on this but on the same subject, my 2002 XJ8 sensors have stopped working as when reverse is engaged, you get a 5 second constant bleep then nothing thereafter. Any ideas?
Thank You

Hi BSV205F ,
If you switch the ignition on,apply handbrake and select reverse then go to the back of the car and if you put your ear near the sensors you should hear a ticking/clicking sort of noise or you can sometimes feel a vibration if you touch them, anyway you have to determine which one is faulty.
Sometimes they just get gummed up with polish or dirt and a clean with a soft nylon brush is all that is needed.
But if you have a faulty one they are very easy to get out, just feel behind and you'll feel the electrical connector and then the clips that hold the sensor in(I think there is two)bend one at a time and push the sensor from the outside at the same time, might take more than one go but persevere it will come out then just unclip the connector or you could take the connector off first but I found that harder due to quite large hands and didn't want to break anything.

A bit of research and I found out that Renault Laguna II Citroen C5 Peugeot 607 807 Part number : 602.412 / 602.356.14
9639945580 / 8200049263
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_f...49263&_sacat=0
are exactly the same even down to the shape of the centre piece for £14.99 against £70.00 from a Jag Dealer,Main or Independent.
Hope that helps.
Enjoy your X308 my friend,I do.

Hi A.J.P.
Thank you kindly for your detailed explanation and also suitable substitute replacements and am going to follow your advice.
I do enjoy the XJ8 very much but its so much more complex than my other car (1968 Ford Cortina 1600E) when it comes to fixing/locating faults!!!
Best regards and your help is much appreciated

If you track down and find its sensor related and need new ones I think I've got a few in the garage. I'd have to check color but know I've got some sensors.
