Rotten - Inner Sills to floor pan - investigating ?
#21
Hi
Sorry for bringing to life an old thread.
Did you manage to get all this welding done?
I have the same problem, but it seems to be only from the front of the inner sill to the B pillar and I have cut out an inch or 2 of the floor in order to patch a panel in. The thin middle sill (which seems to have circular holes in it has rusted at the bottom where it attaches to the inner sill which in turn has gone along the seam with the floor. The rest looks solid.
Did you find any diagrams of how it is supposed to look?
Did you do it yourself or was it all too much?
I have no ramp/.lift, so has to be done on the drive.
Like you I have probably put too much into this already and would rather spend hundreds more just to finish off.
Thanks
James

It was a biggish job as I choose to remove or protect most of the interior of the car to avoid fire risks and splattering nice stuff with angle grinder sparks. I managed with the car on axle stands and I did have some help with some of the welding. I probably had the car off the road a few weeks while I did this work and number of other jobs (Timing chains, ball joints, belts, houses etc). I have pictures still, here are a few:

Great stuff. Thanks for posting the photos.
In your 2nd photo, it looks like the jacking point is not attached to the sill (same as mine currently). How should it be connected?
Also like the chassis rail repair. mine has started to go there, but on mine it seems maybe more rotten on the lower inside edge where the v mount sits.
I am not sure if it's weldable without dropping the subframe on my one.
Thanks

Your profile shows 1999 XK8. Is an X308 a change of / additional vehicle or are you looking for general welding repair advice?
