The V8s can fail a head gasket, but it is not all that common.
Does the exhaust have that "hot coolant" smell to it ? If it has then its new head gasket time

You will then find out the problem with HGF on a V8 - you have to replace head gaskets on both cylinder banks, even though only one has failed, 'coz it is impossible to know which one has gone !

What led up to a gasket failure? Overheating? Most of these cars go to their death on the original head gasket.
