Default Rust spot repair from trunk lid bumper stops

Good morning all!

I've been sorting out a few picky details on newly acquired XJR.

The car is rust free except for two spots in the trunk gutter area.

The paint had worn off from the rubber trunk lid support / adjuster pads and I had two nice little round circles of rust.

I wish I had taken a pic of it, but I suspect that others may have the same problem and may see those two rust spots whenever they open their trunk.

I cleaned and treated the areas with Rustoleum Rust Reformer (any rust converter would probably do), and once it cured, I added these round rubber pads that come with 3M adhesive already attached.

These rubber pads are just larger than a quarter, and were just large enough to cover all of the damaged area.

The result is that the rust is gone, covered, and won't come back.

What do you think?

When I bought these rubber pads, I had to buy a quantity of 50, which is waaaay more than I'll ever need.

So, if any of you would like a pair, FREE OF CHARGE, just PM me your address, and I'll send you a set.

Looks nice! I know my cars tend to collect leaves and dirt around the trunk as well.

Good solution because painting would be impossible due to the continuued rubbing.

Hi Chris.

Glad you got them.

You are welcome!

Sorry it took so long for me to respond. My wife and I are in Chicago this week. Had deep dish pizza last night and a Chicago dog tonight!

Back on topic...

I have more of these if anyone wants some.

Free of charge!

Happy to share.
