A salvage yard, with 3 XJ series, yes I had fun.
During my salvage yard hunt on Saturday, found a yard with 3 XJ series, one 1999 XJ8L, one 2000 XJ8 and a 2000 XJ8 Sport.
Took bits and pieces from each car to resolve certain issues with my. One is the rear view mirror, my had the brown liquid stuff leaking somewhere, so I got the one from the XJ8 Sport that had the rain sensor. Got home and found the connecter is different, so I swap the connector from my old one to the new one, minus the rain sensor.. All the wires matched except for one, the brown one, the new one didn't have it, so I left it out, the mirror works great. Can somebody tell me what the brown wire is for in the mirror from a 1998 XJR.
I took the full exhaust from the XJ8L, minus the CATS for $30.00. I found two difference between my 1998 XJR and the 1999 XJ8L, beside the length differences. First, none of the XJ's had flex pipes and my XJR do. Second, the piping is 2 inches, compared to the 2.25 on the XJR. I am happy with the swap, found what was robbing me of HP, both sides of the old exhaust was clogged.
What was Jaguar thinking when they decided to fish the exhaust through the suspension, I had to jack the car up so high to remove the second set of mufflers, I thought the car was going to flip over.
Going back next weekend for more odds and ends.
