Default Security Locking Module '98 XJ8

Can anyone tell me if a bad SLM can cause These things?
One brake light working INTERMITTENTLY
Can't get the key fob to stay programmed
Car unlocks occasionally when driving
Trunk button and interior release button working intermittently

I have a new battery and alt checks out. Replace the SLM two months ago and everything seemed fine, now, no so much.

Power trunk release could be the wires that run through the trunk lid arms getting frayed. Brake light could be the harness connector clips being loose/weak, or the contacts bending slightly or being corroded.

Yep, I was thinking the wires for the trunk release may be an issue. I've checked and cleaned all connectors to that side of the tail lights, even had a spare circuit board and switched it out in case there was a bad circuit on the board, but no go. Can the SLCM have something to do with the brake light? I've heard that but wasn't sure. I think I'll just remove it and clean it up, maybe give it the ol Ford handshake and see what's what.
Thanks a bunch!

I'd say not the SLM. Bad lock, chafed wire(s).

Hello;
Had almost the same problem with the brake lights on my 02 xj8.
First, one light wasn't working so I changed ALL the bulbs and fuses.
Then BOTH stopped working. They would come on when the headlights were turned on. When you depressed the brake pedal, the lights would not "brighten" to indicate the brake pedal was pressed.
The HML worked fine with no issues when the pedal was depressed. Just the lower lights would not brighten.

Got some GREAT advise on these boards concerning this.

Swapped in a replacement SLCM from a )) xj9 vp and voila, everything worked.
The only thing that was NOT working now is the key Fob, which I'm assuming that since the SLCM has a different FCC# is why the key fob won't re-sync to the car.

I have read the SLCM being referred to as the SECURITY LOCKING CONTROL MODULE and SECURITY LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE.
I'm not sure which is the right term, but the lights for the brakes go through this module.

As far as the other issues, I'm not sure, but the brake lights 100% go through the SLCM. I can confirm that.
Other than that, swapping out the SLCM fixed all the small issues I had like brake lights, reverse sensors, etc...

Thank you! I'm in Jacksonville, FL so as soon as this hurricane passes, I'm going to work from that angle. When I first installed my used, replacement SLCM everything was working. I suspect it is faulty, but I'm going to mess with it, clean contacts, eats and see if I can't get it working again.
Here is the BEST VIDEO I have ever seen on reprogramming the key fob!!
