Security/locking question

Security/locking question
2000 XJ8L. The factory remote fob will only lock the car -- not unlock it, open the trunk, or flash lights. But that's a different issue I need to address differently.
My question here involves how the car unlocks. With the fob (when it works/worked) or with the key in the door, unlocking causes the entire car to unlock. I would prefer having the option of unlocking only the drivers door, and possibly the gas door. Some vehicles (an old Volvo I had, for example) unlock only the drivers door with the first twist and then the entire car with a second twist.
Does anybody know if there is a way to program the security module to allow this function?
Thanks

For your fob, apart from cleaning the contacts, ..you may want to do this, should help... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...pgrade-210090/
I'm with Bob, I don't believe there is another feature for the barrel action.

I've already upgraded the battery to a 2032, as well as disassembled and cleaned the remote itself, including gently prying (prising?) up the battery contacts. Those together yielded good function for a while -- maybe a couple months.
*10 minutes later*
I put a fresh 2032 in it and carefully cleaned everything although it wasn't really dirty. No effect -- still won't unlock the car, open the trunk, or flash the lights. I tested the remote for function (work at an auto parts store -- we have a key fob tester) and each button is emitting a signal. The car is only listening to the lock signal for whatever reason...
Any other ideas? Short of replacing the security module, which I definitely don't want to do...
Thanks

Do you have another remote? ...barring the previous owner, your supposed to have 2, if you even have the correct one. If not, check this post... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...t-fobs-209575/ ...in post #7, MS states the Part #'s for MY. Just in case the one you have isn't for the year its made for and the receiving module.

The car came to me with a single remote fob and single key, presumably the same ones it came with from the factory. The fob has functioned properly at times during the 3 years I've had it -- just not reliably over the long term.
Related to the single key thing, I NEVER close the door with the key in the car, like if I start it and then clean snow off of it. Call me superstitious, but I don't trust the old dame to not lock me out.
Jaguar wants a ridiculous amount of money for a key and fob and programming to work with the car. When I called the local dealer a couple years ago, they quoted me something like $275 for the key and over $600 for the fob, plus a couple hundred for programming. He said this with a straight face, too, as if ALL car keys and fobs are this expensive......
So we work with a single key/fob.......
By the way, after replacing the battery and testing the fob yesterday the car still would not respond to any remote input except the lock command. Until about an hour later, when it suddenly decided to work perfectly.
I cannot explain this logically......
Thanks

Here is something you may consider in regards to Bob's statement.... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...ighlight=tibbe
Post #14 he has the ability to clone keys.
In regards to your key fob....pull it apart and check the "nubs" on the backside of rubber prompt pads to be sure they are flush and/or not broke in some form. Viewing it, you can see how they must be aligned to function correctly.
